Best Way to Clean Rustic Fireplace Mantels
When you own a fireplace, it is important to keep up with regular cleaning to reduce embedded dirt and staining of your mantel. Cleaning rustic fireplace mantels is similar to cleaning any other style of mantel, though there may be less intricate details to clean around.
As you might expect, the top of the mantel will attract dust. This can easily be removed by using an electrostatic duster that will draw the dust in rather than pushing it further into the grain of your mantel. Be sure to use the duster on the vertical surfaces of the mantel as well, which may also retain dust due to the texture of the grain surface.
If you use your fireplace, smoke can leave a residue on your mantel. Use a prepared solution specially designed for mantels or mix a gentle solution of dish washing liquid and water. Use a clean rag dampened with the solution to clean small areas of the mantel at a time, using a circular motion to remove dirt and grime. Use a separate rag dampened in clean water to remove the solution and allow to dry overnight.
If stains occur, you can try a cleaning eraser according to package directions. A paste of baking soda and water may be gently rubbed in and allowed to set overnight. Rinse with a clean, damp rag.
